Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 750 ml (OWC, 3 bottles)

America's Most Elusive Cult Wine

Even buyers on the legendary mailing list receive just a handful of bottles per allocation, and most of those vanish into private cellars within hours. A 2020 reaching the open market in pristine condition is in itself unusual, and the 99-point scores from both Suckling and Decanter make it impossible to ignore.

There are exclusive wines, and then there's Screaming Eagle. With a mailing list requiring years of waiting and production measured in mere hundreds of cases, this is the definition of unobtainable.

The 2020 vintage, crafted by Nick Gislason (head winemaker since age 29), demonstrates why the mystique exists. The blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc comes from vineyards in Oakville, the heart of Napa Valley. Both James Suckling and Decanter rewarded the wine with 99 points.

But Screaming Eagle's story transcends scores. It began in 1986 when Jean Phillips purchased a neglected vineyard. She sought advice from winemaker Heidi Barrett, and the first commercial vintage in 1992 scored 99 with Parker immediately. A legend was born.

In 2006, billionaire Stan Kroenke acquired the estate. Since then, Nick Gislason has refined the style: less showmanship, more precision. The 2020 reflects that philosophy. Antonio Galloni at Vinous called it "energetic and vivid," describing dark blue-purple fruit, lavender, menthol, and spices. But he also noted the wine demands patience.

Owning Screaming Eagle is more than an investment. It's possessing a piece of California wine history that very few people will ever taste.
